How do I know if I need asbestos testing at my property?
+
Age is the biggest one. If your home was built before 1980, asbestos-containing materials were commonly used in insulation, floor tiles, popcorn ceilings, pipe wrap, roof shingles, and joint compound. If you're planning a renovation, demolition, or repair that will disturb those materials, testing is generally recommended.
How is asbestos testing performed, and what methods are typically used?
+
We collect samples of the suspected material like a small piece of drywall, a floor tile fragment, a section of insulation. We process everything with our lab for further analysis. The lab uses polarized light microscopy (PLM) to identify asbestos fibers and confirm whether they're present and at what concentration.
Can I visually identify asbestos-containing materials?
+
No. Asbestos has no color, no smell, and no visible markers. It was mixed into building materials as a fiber, which means it's invisible to the naked eye. Even experienced contractors can't tell by looking. If you're working on an older home and you're not sure, the only way to know is to test.
When will I get my results, and what do they include?
+
Your report is typically ready within 3 to 5 business days of your inspection.
How long does an asbestos test take?
+
Most inspections wrap up in about an hour, though larger homes or properties with multiple areas of concern may take longer.
